My dear husband surprised me by making these after he wasn't able to find any at the store. I was so impressed with his creativity and execution that I knew I'd have to make my own and share them on the blog. We used the bag of Nestle "Winter" morsels which contains dark chocolate and mint. I cut the strong mint flavor by adding in semi sweet chips, but that can be omitted if you prefer it to be more minty. We also used both peppermint and spearmint candies for a mix of red and green colors.
I really hope you get a chance to make these. You won't regret it, especially if you're needing a last minute Christmas treat! Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Holidays to you and your families!
{Makes 30-35 individual pieces}
INGREDIENTS
30-35 double stuff Oreos
15 oz chocolate melted
10 oz Nestle Winter bag (dark chocolate & mint morsels)
5 oz semi sweet chips
crushed peppermint candies
melted white chocolate for drizzling
INSTRUCTIONS
1) Heat chocolate in a heat safe bowl sitting on top of a pot of simmering water. This is called a bain marie. Stir frequently until everything is melted down and can be drizzled easily. Remove from heat.
2) Dip each oreo individually in the melted chocolate to cover all sides. Using a fork to hold the oreo, tap off any excess chocolate back into the bowl.
3) Slide the cookie onto wax or parchment paper where it can set up to dry.
4) At this point, the crushed peppermint candy crumbles can be sprinkled on the top of each oreo cookie. Let sit out at room temperature until the chocolate is hardened.
OR
5) Let all chocolate harden before adding any peppermint. Once the tops were set I drizzled over a little melted white chocolate and a little of the original chocolate I had left over.
6) Top the cookies with the candy crumbles immediately before the chocolate drizzle starts to set.
7) Let sit out at room temperature until all chocolate has hardened. (I usually do this overnight)
* To make drizzles, pour melted chocolate into a small ziploc bag. Squeeze out all the extra air and seal it up tight. Snip of a little piece of the corner so there is a small opening.
