Game of Thrones Feast

In just a little over a week, the greatest show on television will premiere it's 7th season...GAME OF THRONES!!!! My husband & I started watching GOT a few years back and were instantly hooked. We've read all the books and have spent countless hours talking about the characters, story lines, and hypothesizing about what we think is going to happen. Last year for the Season 6 premiere we had a small spread of noms so this year I though I'd share those with you.We are so pumped for 7.16.17 and the next 6 Sunday nights that follow. It will be all I can talk about for a month & a half!

My Letterfolk board is ready. Ned says this quote to Arya in Season 1 and Sansa says it in the newest S7 trailer. Watch HERE to get even more hype!

I even bought this shirt to wear every week! I'm so afraid that Ghost will die this season!

RED WEDDING CUPCAKES

These have been a popular GOT themed treat, but are usually red velvet flavored. I've make mine chocolate with a cream cheese frosting. To keep it simple, use your favorite boxed cake mix and make the frosting from scratch.

8oz cream cheese softened
1 stick unsalted butter softened
3-5 cups sifted powdered sugar
splash of vanilla (optional)
red food coloring

Blend all ingredients together, adding sugar slowly until desired consistency is reached. Add food coloring until the correct red color is achieved.

I also used black cupcake liners because black=death (RIP Robb, Grey Wind, & Catelyn) and because the Targaryen colors are red and black!

HODORitos

While it's still too soon to talk about poor Hodor, this is a super easy snack. Not everything needs to be made from scratch! Pour your favorite flavor doritos into a bowl and call it good.

MYRISH ORANGES

To mimic tasty oranges from the free city of Myr, just slice up your favorite type of citrus. Blood oranges look the coolest, but can be hard to find.

THEON'S COCKTAIL WEENIES

Poor Theon. He's had a bit of a rough go at it the past few seasons, but hopefully with his alliance to Daenerys things will be looking up.

In a crockpot combine 2 packages of cocktail weenies with 12oz of chili sauce and 12oz of grape jelly. Cook on low until the sauce is smooth and hot.

GUEST RIGHT BREAD & SALT

Guest right bread is a huge deal in Westeros. If you offer your guests bread and salt, you are basically saying you won't cause them any harm while they are under your roof. (Looking at you Walder Frey) I like these rolls from Sally's Baking Addiction. You can find the recipe HERE. The herbs are interchangeable based on preference and add as much salt on top as you would like.

CHICKEN LITTLEFINGERS

Simple chicken fingers that even sneaky Lord Baelish would like. I like to use my recipe for ritz cracker chicken which can be found HERE, but really any chicken fingers work just fine. Pick up a tray from Zaxby's if that will make your party planning easier!

VISERYS'S GOLDEN CROWN SAUCE

Remember way back in season 1 when Khal Drogo obliterated Viserys with that "golden crown"? Yeah I thought he had it coming too. This is just honey mustard for you chicken fingers and THIS is how I like to make it. Again, any honey mustard of your choice will work.

SANSA'S LEMON CAKES

Sansa Stark loves lemon cakes even if they are being served by her wretched Aunt Lysa. While these technically aren't lemon cakes, I do love lemon bars. Every time I make them I use THIS recipe from the Pioneer Woman. They're perfect every time.

HOTPIE'S HOT PIE

I hope sweet Hotpie is still making wolf shaped bread and pies at the Inn at the Crossroads. This is chicken pot pie similar to what I grew up eating. As of right now I don't have an exact recipe for chicken pot pie since I mostly do it by sight, but I will share the basic steps on how I make it.

Use store bought pie crust for the top and bottom layers. To make the filling: start by browning cubed pancetta, then add in diced onions and garlic. Cook until translucent. Add butter and flour to make a roux. Whisk in chicken stock and some half & half. Add in one can of veg-all and the already cooked chicken meat. I use previously cooked thigh meat, but a rotisserie chicken is a great option here. Once the roux is completely thickened, add in a few handfuls of extra sharp cheddar cheese. I also like to add parsley and oregano, along with tasting for salt and pepper.
Pour filling into bottom crust and cover with top crust. Seal the edges, but cut a vent for steam to escape. Whisk one egg with a splash of water and use a pastry brush to paint the egg wash all over the crust to help with browning. Bake at 375 for about 30-40 minutes or until the filling is bubbling and the crust is beautiful golden brown.

THE HOUND'S WHOLE CHICKEN

It's common knowledge that Sandor Clegane loves his whole chicken. In fact, he's been known to kill for them, but he needs all that protein if he's going to win CleganeBowl! Ina Garten makes the best whole roasted chicken and her instructions are easy to follow. Get the recipe HERE

DRAGON'S BREATH SHRIMP

I wanted to put together some spicy shrimp that would make you breathe fire like Balerion the Black Dread. There are no measurements here so that you can adjust the amount of shrimp needed and also the level of heat. Just (dragon)wing it.

Shrimp should be raw, deviened, with the tail still on. Place in bowl and just cover with buttermilk. Add in sriracha or any other hot sauce and stir to combine. Let the shrimp marinate for about 30 minutes. Combine equal parts panko bread crumbs and AP flour on a separate plate or bowl. Season with desired amounts of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger, and cayenne pepper. Dip the shrimp into the breadcrumb mixture straight from the buttermilk. Make sure each piece is completely coated. Heat about an inch of oil in a shallow skillet. The shrimp should immediately sizzle and bubble when placed in the oil. Fry on one side for roughly a minutes then flip to let the other side cook. Shrimp are done when curled into a "C" shape and are golden brown. Drain on a paper towel lined plate then serve with Thai sweet chili sauce.

THE KINGSLAYER

No party or feast is complete without a drink. I found this cocktail online last year when searching for festive drink options. The original recipe can be found HERE. Swap out the cranberry juice for pomegranate juice for a fun twist and consider making your own sour mix. Here's how:

Make a simple syrup by bringing one cup of water to a boil with one cup of sugar. Once the sugar is dissolved, remove from the heat and allow to cool. Mix cooled simple syrup with 1 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice and 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lime juice. It knocks the pants off any of that store bought stuff.

Finish off your feast with name cards for each dish so that your guests will know what each dish is. I used THIS website to get the correct font and printed them out on card stock! Happy watching! #WinterIsHere
